Identity Verification

A Competency Passport is only meaningful if the person who earned it is the person who took the assessment. This document explains the identity signals we capture and how they are used.

Account identity

Every assessment is completed inside an authenticated Competency Labs account. Accounts are tied to a verified email address, with password or single-sign-on protection and session-based access.

Session integrity signals

Session bindingAssessments are bound to the authenticated session that started them; re-authentication is required after interruption.
Device & network signalsAnomalous session signals (impossible travel, session hand-off) are logged and flagged for review.
Timing telemetryPer-question timing is recorded on verified assessments to detect off-platform assistance.

Enhanced identity verification

For verified-tier assessments and Passport issuance, Competency Labs may require additional identity confirmation — for example live proctoring, government-ID checks through a regulated verification partner, or employer-attested identity. When required, users are informed before the assessment begins and consent to the check.

Identity documents used for verification are handled by regulated verification partners and are not retained by Competency Labs in the assessment record.
