Terms of Service

By creating a Competency Labs account, joining the waitlist, submitting a CompetencyScore™, or accessing a Competency Passport verification link, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

If you use the service on behalf of an organisation (an employer, training provider, or research partner), you represent that you are authorised to bind that organisation to these terms.

You must be at least 18 years old to create a Competency Labs account. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you submit and for keeping your sign-in credentials confidential. Notify us immediately at security@competencylabs.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that submit falsified evidence, impersonate another person, circumvent identity verification, or violate these terms.

Competency Labs provides tools for candidates and employers to establish, verify, and share professional competency in life-sciences roles. The service includes:

• CompetencyScore™ — a self-assessment producing a readiness snapshot.
• Development Profile — a private practice environment for AI-graded simulations.
• Competency Passport — a verified credential issued after human review of an approved assessment attempt.
• Verification portal — a public endpoint at verify.competencylabs.com for third parties to confirm the validity of a Passport.

We may add, modify, or discontinue features. Material changes to the service that affect existing credentials will be communicated in advance.

You retain ownership of the responses, transcripts, and evidence you submit (“Candidate Content”). By submitting Candidate Content, you grant Competency Labs a worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, process, review, score, and — where you have enabled a public Passport link — display the reviewer-approved portions of that content, solely to operate the service.

Public Passport links are off by default. Enabling a public link is an intentional act. Public links never display your email address, private notes, admin notes, or raw response text; they display only the reviewer-approved CompetencyScore™, competency breakdown, and issue metadata.

You agree not to:

• Submit content you did not author, or that misrepresents another person's competence;
• Use the AI Practice environment to fabricate evidence for a verified Passport (the platform enforces this technically — see our Assessment Policy);
• Attempt to bypass identity verification, human review, or credential expiry;
• Scrape, reverse-engineer, or systematically extract data from the public verification portal;
• Interfere with the service through denial-of-service, credential stuffing, or automated abuse.

Violations may result in immediate suspension, revocation of issued credentials, and referral to relevant regulators or law-enforcement authorities.

A Competency Passport is issued only after a human reviewer approves a verified assessment attempt that has passed identity verification and integrity checks. We may revoke, expire, or supersede a credential if we determine — in good faith and on evidence — that the underlying attempt does not meet our standards, that the candidate's identity was misrepresented, or that framework requirements have materially changed.

The beta programme is provided at no cost to invited candidates. Any future paid plans, employer subscriptions, or verification quotas will be introduced with advance notice and their own commercial terms. Nothing in these Terms obliges you to pay for the service today.

Competency Labs, CompetencyScore™, Competency Passport, our casebooks, rubrics, simulation packets, and the underlying software are the property of Competency Labs or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. Except for the licence granted to you to use the service, no rights are transferred.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. Competency Labs does not guarantee that a Competency Passport will result in a job offer, licence, or regulatory approval. A verified credential attests to demonstrated competency in the assessed scenarios; it is not a substitute for employer due diligence, professional licensure, or continuing education.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Competency Labs and its officers, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenues, data, or goodwill, arising out of or related to your use of the service. Our aggregate liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of (a) the fees you paid to Competency Labs in the twelve months preceding the claim, or (b) one hundred pounds sterling (£100).

You may stop using the service at any time and request deletion of your data via the data deletion request form. We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these terms; where a credential has been issued, we will follow the revocation procedure in our Credential Verification Policy rather than silently withdrawing it.

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer protection rights in your country of residence.

We may update these terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on the site and, for account holders, by email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
